Purdon was engaged as planning advisor to help Oculus understand the development potential surrounding Dickson Group Centre Streetscapes and provide advice on statutory approval processes required for the public realm upgrades in the group centre.
Purdon reviewed completed development applications outlining the notable planning opportunities, constraints, and general commentary about the project. The findings of the feasibility study were used to develop a Concept Masterplan for the streets in the group centre.
Purdon provided advice on statutory approval processes required for works around the existing shopping mall areas and streetscapes. This required review of the relevant design plans prepared by Oculus, advice on non-Territory Plan approvals required and attendance at meetings with relevant stakeholders to ensure the programme of works can be both compliant with the relevant legislation and be implemented in the most effective and efficient manner possible. Of particular challenge, was the need for the accommodation of Heritage design principles around the Dickson Library, interaction with existing and proposed utilities, and tree removal without a DA. These were overcome by the project team through engagement with entities and experts, following the early advice of Purdon.
