PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Purdon Planning has prepared concept plans for relocation of part of Charles Darwin University (CDU) into the CBD of Darwin. The 1.2-hectare site is currently used as a surface car park. The Brief was to undertake a site assessment and present options to implement approximately 120,000m2 of floorspace for CDU and other mixed activity with carparking onsite.

PROJECT FEATURES
Purdon Planning was engaged as the town planning component of a project team including DCWC SAFM, an asset management consultant, to advise CDU on opportunities to relocate part of their operations into the CBD of Darwin. The project is to be a principle component of the Darwin City Deal.
The Brief was to undertake a site assessment and present options to develop the site to accommodate the current and future needs of the University. CDU has ambitious plans for future expansion and provision of student accommodation. The plans provided for approximately 120,000m2 of floorspace for CDU and other mixed activity with carparking onsite.
PROJECT OUTCOMES
Purdon Planning and DCWC SAFM delivered:
- A comprehensive assessment of the site’s opportunities and constraints.
- A range of development options considering the Northern Territory’s planning guidelines and objectives, constraints of the site, and current and future needs of CDU.
- A detailed implementation plan for the development with advice regarding staging and funding.
